Portable design packs flat suiting my photography kit alongside Fujifilm gear.Thumb screw tightens firmly but fingers slip when gloved. Added bulk hinders pocket storage slightly. Mic ports need wind foam extra for gusty days. Overall this essential cage safeguards my X5 investment through every adventure confidently.

Getting my X5 to fit was a bit harder than I think it should have been. I could only close the device fully when the X5 screen was facing the same way as the Maectech logo - something I did not see anywhere in the instructions. I didn't like the rough way my new X5 slid into the metal frame, and how it's plastic rubbed the frame while looking for the right fit.I attempted to attach two items to the cold shoe mounts: the microphone slid on readily, but the LED light refused to fit at all. I have never had an issue fitting the light to anything else, so I'm wondering if these cold shoe mounts are a little too small.The lens cover seems like it would provide good protection to that sensitive element. The cage looks like it would protect the edges of the camera in the event of a drop too.The magnet on the bottom is strong, perhaps just strong enough to hold your X5 if you dare attaching it to something like that.I could see several uses for this item, but not knowing if your cold shoes will fit in the mounts is a bit of a turn off. You might not like the way you need to jam your new camera into this thing either.

Updated Review – Raising to 5 Stars After Discovering the IssueI’m updating my original review after finally figuring out what went wrong on my first attempt to use this frame.I had originally given this three stars because my Insta360 X5 wouldn’t slide into the frame. I thought the small hook-like piece on the lower right edge of the camera was part of the X5 itself, and the frame’s opening was so precise that the camera simply wouldn’t fit. I didn’t want to force anything and risk damage.It turns out that the “hook” wasn’t part of the camera at all—it was an aftermarket waterproofing plug my daughter had added so she could safely charge the camera while camping. I had never used the camera before, so I didn’t realize the piece wasn’t original. Once I removed that add-on, the camera slid into the frame perfectly. No special version of the frame is required.As for the frame itself, it’s well-made, fits the X5 exactly, and offers two mounting points: one on the bottom for the usual selfie stick/tripod, and a side mount that makes it easy to attach the camera in more creative setups, like on a motorcycle while still leaving room for another accessory.Regarding the “quick magnet release” feature, I’ll note one thing for anyone expecting a strong magnetic hold: the magnet isn’t strong enough to support the full weight of the camera on its own. Yes, it will stick to something like a refrigerator for a quick placement, but it slides easily and I would never trust it unattended or as a primary support method. It works as a convenience aid, not as a secure mount.Now that I understand the issue, the product deserves the full five stars. It fits, it’s solid, and it works exactly as intended—once that aftermarket piece is out of the way.
